Your customers say lakh and crore. So should your agent.
Indian English, said the way your customers say it.
For B2B calls, demo bookings and support lines in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai and Kochi, in plain Indian English on the phone.
Talk to Riya, and ask for English.
Riya starts in Hinglish in your browser, with no sign-up. Say "English mein baat kijiye" and she follows you.
Lakh and crore rather than million. Phone numbers read in groups. Polite, direct sentences that a person in an Indian office would actually say.
English is available on Standard, Ultra, Premium and Ultra Premium voices, so you can match the voice to the value of the call.
Ready-made English templates cover jobs like loan documents, Cash on Delivery confirmation and course enquiries. Edit them to fit your brand.
English on an Indian call has its own rules
Metro customers and B2B buyers often prefer English, but not the English of a foreign help desk. Small choices tell them who is calling.
Say numbers the Indian way
"Two point five million" makes a Pune buyer stop and do sums. "Twenty-five lakh" does not. Write amounts the way your customers say them.
Buyers want the point quickly
An operations head taking your call between meetings wants the reason, then one question. Skip the long introduction of the company.
Polite does not mean long
A name and a polite tone are usually enough. Use Sir or Ma'am only if your brand does, because it can sound like a sales script.
How the agent soundsHi Priya, this is about your demo request. Is now a good time?Your list may not share a first language
In Bengaluru or Mumbai, English is often the neutral choice when you do not know the caller's first language. It is a fair place to start.
Read numbers so they can be noted
A phone number or order ID read in one long string gets missed. Write them in groups, the way people read them aloud here.
How the agent soundsYour order number is four eight two, seven one nine. Shall I repeat it?When the deal needs a person
A serious buyer may want to talk to someone on your team. You can hand the call to a person on Professional and Enterprise.

Small things that make it sound local
Indian English is a real way of speaking with its own habits. Your script should sound like your best executive, not a textbook.
Customers say "do the needful", "revert" and "prepone". Your agent need not copy them all, but it should understand the intent and not correct them.
Some brands use them on every line, others never. Decide once in your script. Repeating them in each sentence quickly sounds forced.
A customer may drop into their own language. The agent stays in English unless you turn on Multilingual mode, which lets it follow them.
Use "Sir" or "Ma'am" only if your brand does. A name with a polite tone is usually enough. Say lakh and crore rather than million, and read phone numbers in groups.
